Concepts

When I first started BJJ, I was immediately eager to learn everything about it on top of regular training sessions.

The first book I encountered that seemed to perfectly answer my need was Paulo Guillobel’s :
Mastering the 21 Immutable Principles of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu

I started mapping them out in a more organized fashion, typical MBA/consultant/nerd stuff.

Oneself/Opponent
Mental/Physical

Then I started realizing that there are way more than 21 principles.

or way less.

I’ve accumulated dozens of principles, concepts, heuristics (rule of thumb, 経験則).

But in the end it might all come down to one : Kuzushi.
or two… add 作り or one… 作り or three… the map is not the territory, but concepts are the true fundamentals that will inform your brain to make the correct neuro-muscular pathways.

How to disrupt the other
and its reverse; How to restore yourself

I’ll try map all these out… and classify them tentatively as :

  • Strategy
  • Training-specific
  • Biomechanics
  • Competition-Related
  • General heuristics
