Years Trained And Better Metrics
_“How many years have you been training?”
_It’s a common question and an easy proxy for dedication and ability, yet it misses so much granularity. There are the prodigies who defeat black belts in competitions after 4 years of training, and the extremely casuals who still get overwhelmed by athletic blue belts after 10+ years of training.
These would be outliers of course, and we don’t know exactly what the distributions looks like, neither for 1) Time Spent x Belt Level, and 2) Belt Level and Ability.
“Measure experience in exposure to shocks rather than years” seen on X in 2018, @angjiang, forgot the context ^^
This captures interesting dimensions; time vs intensity, cruise control vs adversity.
